We note the passing of Richard John Neuhaus, a great warrior for the cause of right to life, religion in the public square and long time editor of First Things. His 1984 book The Naked Public Square: Religion and Democracy in America was a strong argument for religion in public life and discourse.
He was a Lutheran minister who became a Roman Catholic priest. His forthright defense of life and Christian morality will be sorely missed.

Richard John Neuhaus, 1936-2009
